About
Marcus Mursalin Cornelius
Born in 1943 in Bristol, UK, and, at 14 years of age, knew he would spend his life as a writer. He graduated from Exeter University (UK) in 1965, was then awarded a 2-year Creative Writing Scholarship at Syracuse University (USA), and back in UK was awarded a further 2-year writing grant in 1967. In 1969, he was opened in Subud and has followed the latihan of Subud ever since. How this element in his life changed the path he followed over the ensuing forty years and more is told in his inner autobiography (see below).
After managing his own book business in UK for 10 years, in 1981 he migrated to Australia where he worked in the photographic industry, arts management and freelance writing in Melbourne and Sydney. It was in Sydney that he completed his first major novel Out of Nowhere - the musical life of Warne Marsh (published 2002, reprinted 2008). Described by one reader as 'the most literate book about music that I have ever read', it was a major part of the reason he secured a position as a professor at Hokuriku University in Japan, where he lived, taught and wrote from 1991 until 2000. |
His second work was a fifteen-year project, a major 5-part novel Note for Note (Another Pentateuch), all five volumes published by i-Universe and available from the publisher, amazon.com, other online sites and your local bookshop. He has also completed 8 volumes of poetry/song, which he calls Sopolyrimu (songs, poems, lyrics for music). Three volumes have been published and have been very well received.
Each volume of Sopolyrimu contains one hundred songs, and the first two Volumes (Songs from the Villa and Songs from down the Lane) were published in 2009 followed by Volume 3 (Songs like fallen Apples) . In August 2009 he set out to London (UK) and Paris to perform his sopolyrimu accompanied by improvised music and dance, which adventure, after two years in Eymet, France, ultimately lead him to Spain. Marcus settled in Sevilla, in the magical suburb of Triana where he wrote Twinkling of an I in the Eye of the Self, the story of his inner evolution. This book was published by i-Universe in March 2015. The most recently completed prose, a meditation, is called The Seed - A Hymn to Being (In English & Spanish). Sopolryimu Volume 9 is called Songs for the Wind and is now complete. The final volume, Volume 10: Songs for a Day & Age, is in progress. He continues to live in Sevilla, Spain, as a permanent resident. • His spoken word CD's are available by contacting the author directly (see the Contact page) or for download on i-Tunes.
